Apophyllite Crystal Cluster

Apophyllite is one of those stones that seems to clear the air around it. It grows in glassy, often pyramid-tipped crystals, usually colourless or white, prized for a brightness and transparency that can be remarkable in a good cluster. The name comes from the Greek for "to flake apart," a reference to the way the mineral peels at the surface when heated, and its high water content gives it a light, almost luminous quality. Its place in crystal practice is modern, valued above all for a clarity that feels less like a property of the stone than of the space it sits in.

The modern tradition links it to the Third Eye and Crown Chakras of the Hindu and Vedic chakra system, the higher centres that govern insight and connection beyond the everyday self.

Apophyllite is most often kept as a cluster in a room that needs clearing, a meditation space, a bedroom, a corner that has felt heavy. Many people use it during meditation and dreamwork, placed nearby or held briefly to settle and clear the mind before practice. It is a popular choice for energy-clearing grids and for spaces dedicated to reflection. Smaller single points sometimes travel in a pouch, though clusters are where apophyllite is most at home.

Apophyllite is soft and brittle (Mohs 4.5–5) and can flake or chip, especially at the delicate points. Cleanse with sound, moonlight, or smoke; avoid water, which can damage it over time, and handle clusters by the base. Keep away from knocks and from harder stones.
