Red Tiger Eye is the warmest and most physical of the tiger eyes, the clear-eyed practical strength of the yellow stone deepened into something more embodied and direct. It is a stone for returning to a body that has been through illness, injury, or long stretches of feeling cold or shut down. The colour comes from heating: either naturally, over geological time, where the stone formed in conditions of natural warmth, or commercially, where yellow tiger eye is heat-treated to shift its colour from gold to a deep, warm red. Some red tiger eye is naturally red; most has been commercially heat-treated, and good shops disclose this. The same pseudomorphic structure that gives all tiger eye its chatoyancy survives the heating, so a good piece still carries the shifting golden-red sheen that catches light beautifully when the stone is turned.

It is associated with the Root Chakra and the Sacral Chakra in the Hindu and Vedic tradition, sitting lower in the energy system than its yellow sibling.

Red Tiger Eye is hard and stable (Mohs 7), and easy to care for. Cleanse with running water, sound, moonlight, or smoke. The chatoyant sheen and the red colour are stable in normal light. Wipe with a soft cloth to maintain the polish.
