Properties & Traditions
Charoite is a swirling purple stone found in only one place on earth, a remote region of Siberia near the Chara River, from which it takes its name. Its colour moves through lilac, violet, and deep purple in fibrous, marbled swirls, often with flecks of black and pearly white, giving a good piece a depth that seems to shift as it is turned. It was unknown to the wider world until the 1970s, so its place in crystal practice is recent, but it has earned a strong following for both its rarity and its striking, almost hypnotic patterning.

Modern practice places it at the Third Eye and Crown Chakras of the Hindu and Vedic chakra system, the higher centres of insight, intuition, and spiritual connection.

In crystal practice today, charoite is known as a stone of spiritual transformation, said to support deep inner change, ease fear during periods of upheaval, and turn difficult experience into insight. The tradition also reaches for it to soothe the nervous system and to support the liver and pancreas, the body’s quiet work of clearing and steadying, and to strengthen the body and its energy field with a grounding steadiness. It is associated with intuition, courage in the face of change, and the integration of the things we would rather not look at. Many people work with it during significant life transitions, valuing a stone that helps them move through hard passages rather than around them.
Our team's experience
Charoite never fails to draw the eye, the purple swirling through a good piece in a way that looks almost like brushstrokes or weather. No two are alike, and the depth of colour genuinely surprises people. We reach for it for those moving through major change or upheaval who want support rather than soothing, since its character is transformative rather than calming. It is a collector's favourite too, for its rarity and for the sheer beauty of the patterning.
How our customers use it
Charoite often becomes a stone for times of transition, kept close during major life changes, upheaval, or deep inner work. Many people hold it during meditation focused on transformation, or keep a piece where they do reflective work. It is a popular companion for those navigating endings and beginnings, and some keep a polished piece on a desk or altar as a reminder that hard change can be moved through. It is durable enough to carry, though fine pieces are often kept as display.
Care notes
Charoite is moderately hard (Mohs 5–6) and reasonably durable, though best protected from hard knocks. Cleanse with running water, sound, moonlight, or smoke. The purple is fairly stable, but prolonged strong sunlight is best avoided. Wipe with a soft cloth to keep the swirling colour clear.
