Properties & Traditions
Rainbow moonstone is the luminous, magical-looking member of the moonstone family, and is often called the Stone of New Beginnings. It is a clear-to-white stone that flashes with floating blue, and sometimes a whole spectrum of soft colour, as the light moves across it, prized for a bright, uplifting quality that the classic grey moonstone carries more quietly. It is turned to for intuition, new beginnings, and spiritual connection. Rainbow moonstone is not, strictly, true moonstone at all, but a gem-quality labradorite, a closely related feldspar whose flash runs to rainbow blues and golds rather than labradorite's usual peacock tones. It is sold and loved as moonstone, and shares its lunar, feminine spirit, so the name has stuck. That flash, an optical play of light between fine internal layers, is the heart of its appeal.

In the Hindu and Vedic tradition rainbow moonstone is linked to the Sacral, Third Eye, and Crown Chakras, joining the creative centre to intuition and spiritual insight.

Rainbow moonstone is drawn on to lift the spirit, open inner knowing, and welcome fresh starts. It is associated with emotional clarity, with the divine feminine, and with a protective brightness on the intuitive path, and many keep it close as much for its beauty as for its hopeful character.
Our team's experience
Rainbow moonstone is a genuine showpiece, that clear body lighting up with a drifting blue flash, sometimes flaring into greens and golds when the light is right. People are captivated by it. We are always happy to explain that it is technically a fine labradorite, sold as moonstone for its lunar look, which most people find interesting rather than off-putting. It feels luminous in the hand. We suggest it to anyone wanting moonstone's intuition with extra brightness and lift.
How our customers use it
Many people keep rainbow moonstone for intuition and new beginnings, holding a piece while setting intentions or wanting to feel more open and attuned. Some wear it as jewellery, where the flash shows beautifully, others keep it close for its bright, uplifting presence. It draws on the moonstone family's lunar, intuitive spirit with an added luminosity, suiting people who want magic and hope from a stone as much as calm.
Care notes
Rainbow moonstone is reasonably hard (Mohs 6-6.5) but cleaves in flat planes, so avoid sharp knocks. Cleanse it under cool running water or with sound, and let it rest in moonlight to refresh it. It is stable in normal light and lovely to wear.
