Rutilated Quartz Crystal Generator

Hold a piece of rutilated quartz to the light and it seems threaded with fire: fine gold needles running through clear quartz, sometimes sparse and elegant, sometimes so dense the whole stone looks lit from within. The needles are rutile, titanium dioxide crystallised in long hair-thin filaments suspended inside the host stone, and no two patterns are the same. The Romans called them crines Veneris, Venus's hair, and Renaissance jewellers carved rutilated quartz into cabochons and intaglios prized for their visible inner gold. Pliny the Elder describes hair-bearing quartzes in his Natural History.

It is associated with the Crown Chakra in the Hindu and Vedic tradition, though it works across all the Chakras, for the complete energetic system the gold needles within it carry.

Rutilated Quartz is hard and stable (Mohs 7), and easy to care for. Cleanse with running water, sound, moonlight, or smoke. The needles within the stone are protected by the surrounding quartz and stable in normal conditions. Wipe with a soft cloth to maintain clarity.
