Properties & Traditions
Heated citrine is amethyst that has been heat-treated into citrine’s colours—warm yellows, rich amber, and burnt orange. The change happens in the earth too, when amethyst meets volcanic heat over geological time, but most heated citrine is made commercially in furnaces. The stone keeps amethyst’s chemistry throughout, often taking on a richer burnt-orange tone than natural citrine shows. The vast majority of citrine on the world market is, in fact, heated amethyst.

The tradition treats heated citrine as carrying both the heritage of amethyst and the metaphysical qualities of citrine: the Crown and Third Eye associations of amethyst's purple, now warmed into the Solar Plexus and Sacral Chakra work that natural citrine is known for. Many crystal practitioners regard heated citrine as no less effective than natural citrine, while others prefer the gentler frequency of unheated stones; both views have long-standing support in the modern crystal healing tradition.

The tradition associates heated citrine, like its natural sibling, with abundance, prosperity, confidence, creative motivation, and the warm forward momentum of the Solar Plexus. It is also long linked in the tradition to the digestive system and the body's metabolic warmth. Some practitioners hold that the heat treatment adds an additional layer of transformational energy—the stone has, after all, undergone its own profound change. It is the everyday citrine.
Our team's experience
Most of the citrine for sale in the world—and most of the citrine we sell—is heated amethyst, and we tell customers that when they ask. The colour is the giveaway: heated citrine tends toward a richer, more amber-orange tone, often with a faint white cloudiness near the base where the amethyst's original structure shows through. We do also stock unheated natural citrine, which is lighter, lemon-yellow, and considerably rarer; the price reflects this. Most people, once they understand the distinction, are happy with heated. It is a beautiful, energetically alive stone, and there is something to value in a stone that has been through its own transformation.
How our customers use it
Heated Citrine settles into the same homes as natural citrine—near tills, in the corners of rooms dedicated to abundance work, in pockets and on desks during creative or financial projects. Because it is more affordable and more widely available, heated citrine tends to be the citrine that goes into larger clusters, generators, and centrepiece pieces, while natural citrine is more often chosen for jewellery or smaller dedicated tumbles. Many people choose it specifically when setting up a new business or marking a new financial chapter.
Care notes
Heated Citrine is hard and stable (Mohs 7), and easy to care for. Like other citrine, it is traditionally held to transmute rather than absorb, requiring less frequent cleansing than other quartz. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which may slowly affect the colour over time.
