Properties & Traditions
Larimar is a stone of sea and sky, a soft blue-to-teal mineral patterned with white that calls to mind shallow tropical water, reached for to calm, to cool heated feeling, and to speak with serenity. It has a genuinely soothing presence, turned to by people who feel anxious, overheated, or stirred up and want to find a tranquil, flowing kind of calm. Found in only one place on earth, a single mountainside in the Dominican Republic, it is a blue variety of the mineral pectolite, its colour the gift of copper within the stone. Discovered and named only in the 1970s, it is a modern stone, so its metaphysical practice belongs entirely to the contemporary crystal tradition.
That tradition links larimar to both the Throat and Heart Chakras of the Hindu and Vedic chakra system, joining calm expression to a peaceful heart.
Larimar is known as a stone of tranquillity and gentle communication, drawn on to soothe anxiety, cool anger, and bring a calm, clear quality to how a person speaks and feels. It is associated with serenity, emotional ease, and a soft, flowing release of stress, and the tradition reads it as a stone for finding peace, as though borrowing the steadiness of calm water. It is associated, too, with deep soul connection—with opening the heart to kindred spirits and the meeting of those who feel like home.

Our team's experience
Larimar is one of the most calming stones to simply look at, that soft sea-blue marbled with white, like sunlight on shallow water. People often relax a little just holding it. It is moderately soft, so it wants some care, and good strong-blue pieces are increasingly precious given the single source. We offer it to people carrying anxiety or running hot emotionally, who want something genuinely soothing, with a touch of the sea to it.
How our customers use it
Many people keep larimar for calm, holding a piece during anxious or overwhelming stretches or when feelings need to cool and settle. Some keep it at the throat in jewellery for serene, gentle expression, others by the bath or a quiet corner for its restful, watery presence. It tends to suit people who want soothing and peace from a stone, and who are drawn to its rare, sea-like beauty as much as its calming reputation.
Care notes
Larimar is fairly soft (Mohs 4.5-5), so handle it with care and keep it apart from harder stones. A brief rinse is fine, but avoid prolonged soaking; cleanse it with sound or moonlight. It can slowly fade in prolonged direct sunlight, so somewhere indirect suits it best.
