The pale pink-to-lilac colour comes from natural inclusions of lithium-bearing minerals—lepidolite, eosphorite, and others—suspended in clear quartz during its formation. Most material comes from Brazilian deposits, and the colour can be soft and dusty or, in better-quality pieces, a richer pink-violet that catches the light when the stone is turned. Lithium Quartz has emerged as a distinct named variety only in the modern crystal market; older traditions did not distinguish it from other pinkish quartzes.

Lithium Quartz is hard and stable (Mohs 7), and easy to care for. Cleanse with running water, sound, moonlight, or smoke. The soft pink-lilac is stable in normal light but may slowly soften under strong direct sunlight, so display in indirect light is preferable.
