Properties & Traditions
Prehnite is a stone for tired hearts and tired healers, the one to reach for when caring for others has quietly emptied you out and you need something that restores rather than asks. A soft, translucent stone in shades of pale green to gentle yellow-green, often with a faint inner glow, it was the first mineral ever named after a person, the Dutch colonel Hendrik von Prehn, who brought it from South Africa in the 1780s. That makes it a relatively modern arrival in the crystal world, and its metaphysical associations belong to modern practice rather than ancient tradition, though it has gathered a devoted following since.

It is associated with the Heart Chakra, the centre the Hindu and Vedic tradition links to love and compassion, and with the Solar Plexus Chakra just below it, the seat of personal will, pairing emotional warmth with the energy to act on it.

In the modern crystal healing tradition, prehnite is known as the stone of unconditional love and of "healing the healer," turned to by people who give a great deal of themselves and need replenishing. It calms worry, eases the kind of anxiety that comes from carrying too much, and is said to quiet the mind enough for rest. It is understood to support the work of the kidneys and the body's systems of release and renewal, and is known for soothing frayed nerves, reading as a deeply restorative, nourishing stone.
Our team's experience
Prehnite has a gentle, almost luminous quality, a soft green that seems lit faintly from within, sometimes with fine dark needles of epidote threaded through it. It feels smooth and cool, with a slightly waxy surface. We tend to sell it to people in caring roles, nurses, teachers, parents, anyone who pours themselves out for others, and we are often struck by how readily those people recognise themselves in the "healing the healer" description. It is a quietly popular stone, chosen less for drama than for the sense of replenishment people say they feel from keeping it close.
How our customers use it
Prehnite often goes to people who give a lot of themselves and are learning to refill the well, who keep a piece where they can hold it at the end of a depleting day. Many keep it by the bed, where it is associated with calmer rest and untroubled sleep. Some carry a tumble through demanding stretches of caring work, others place it in a space set aside for their own restoration. It is a popular companion stone for anyone in a helping profession, and a thoughtful gift for someone who tends to look after everyone but themselves.
Care notes
Prehnite is reasonably durable (Mohs 6-6.5) but can fade in prolonged direct sunlight, so a shaded spot suits it for long-term display. Cleanse with running water, sound, or moonlight. A soft cloth keeps its gentle glow; avoid harsh chemicals and sharp knocks.
