Natural Purpurite Crystal

Purpurite is a stone for stepping into your own authority, the one to reach for when you know what you think but have been hesitant to say it. Its colour is its signature: a deep, regal purple, sometimes shading toward rosy violet, with a slightly metallic sheen where it catches the light. It is an iron-manganese phosphate, and that rich purple is the mineral weathering at the surface; freshly broken, it can be far duller, so the vivid colour people prize is partly the stone's own slow transformation in the open air. It is an uncommon collector's stone, and a relatively obscure one in crystal practice, with associations belonging firmly to the modern tradition.
