Properties & Traditions
Watermelon tourmaline is the stone we reach for when a heart needs both comforting and bringing back to life at once, the soft care of pink wrapped around the green of growth and fresh beginnings. People tend to fall for it on sight, and with good reason: it is one of nature's small marvels, a single crystal that grew pink at its core and green around the rim, or banded pink and green along its length, so a polished slice really does look like a slice of watermelon. The two colours come from different trace elements caught up as the crystal formed, pink from manganese and green from iron. Both halves of it are heart stones, which is partly why it feels so whole and so generous a thing to hold.

It is associated with the Heart Chakra, the seat of love and compassion, both colours working at that same centre.

In the crystal tradition today, watermelon tourmaline is read as the gentlest and most balanced of the heart stones, the pink bringing tenderness and self-love while the green brings vitality, growth, and emotional renewal. It is turned to for healing the heart and for restoring balance after hurt, valued for soothing and re-energising in the same breath. It is understood to support the work of the heart on both fronts, calming and reviving together, a stone for anyone wanting their heart both comforted and brought gently back to life.
Our team's experience
Watermelon tourmaline is one people genuinely marvel at, that pink-and-green crystal looking so much like the fruit it's named for, especially in a clear polished slice held up to the light. It feels smooth and cool, and the gem-clear pieces are quietly stunning. We love sharing it with anyone working to heal and renew the heart at once, and with collectors, who prize good watermelon slices for their beauty as much as anything. It is hard to hold one and not smile.
How our customers use it
A lot of people keep watermelon tourmaline as a heart stone for both comfort and renewal, carrying a piece or wearing a polished slice where it sits near the heart. Some reach for it while working through a hurt that needs both soothing and fresh energy to recover from. Others simply keep a clear slice for its beauty, set where the light can catch the colours. It tends to be treasured as much for how it looks as for what it offers.
Care notes
Watermelon tourmaline (Mohs 7-7.5) is hard and durable, though clear slices can be brittle at the edges, so handle them with a little care. Cleanse with running water, sound, moonlight, or smoke, and keep it out of long, strong sunlight to protect the colours.
