Properties & Traditions
When the quiet of meditation starts to show up as kindness in ordinary life, and heart and spirit begin to work together, green amethyst is a soft stone to have close. Its name needs a word of explanation, because amethyst is purple by definition: this gentle, leek-green quartz, known in the gem trade as prasiolite, is almost always amethyst that has been warmed to around 500 degrees Celsius, mostly from one Brazilian deposit whose purple turns green where others will not. Naturally green quartz does exist, but it is rare and almost never what reaches a shop. The heat changes only the colour; underneath it is still true quartz, hard and clear, and we keep the name green amethyst because that is what it was before the heat.

Modern practice links it to the Heart Chakra, the centre of love and compassion in the Hindu and Vedic chakra system, while keeping something of amethyst's Crown Chakra reach.

In the crystal tradition today, green amethyst is read through its two natures: amethyst's calm and clarity, and the heart-centred warmth the tradition gives to green stones. We turn to it for gentle emotional healing, for compassion toward ourselves, and for a spiritual practice that wants a warmer, more embodied footing. Its place in the tradition is recent and still finding its shape, which seems right for a stone so newly come into its colour.
Our team's experience
Green amethyst is one of the softest greens we know, a pale, clear, almost minty colour, nothing like the purple it began as. A faceted piece is airy and see-through, closer to pale aquamarine than to aventurine or jade, and it sits cool and clean against the skin, like a sip of cold water on a warm day. It is heat-treated amethyst, and most people, told so, love it just the same. We suggest it to amethyst lovers who want their practice to feel kinder and closer to the heart, and to anyone who finds rose quartz a little too sweet.
How our customers use it
Most green amethyst is worn every day, a small, quiet reminder to go gently with yourself. Some hold it during heart-centred meditation, others put it on in the evening for a softer note at the end of the day. It is often chosen as a first green stone by those of us who want something clear rather than opaque, and it makes a tender gift for someone starting a gentler chapter.
Care notes
Green amethyst is hard and stable (Mohs 7) and easy to care for. Cleanse with running water, sound, moonlight, or smoke. Its green can fade in prolonged strong sunlight, so keep it out of a sunny window when it is not being worn.
