Properties & Traditions
Late at night, with the house finally still, there is a kind of knowing that only surfaces when we stop talking over it, and tanzanite is a stone for that hour. Its velvety blue-violet changes as you turn it, deep blue from one side, violet from another, sometimes a flush of burgundy, as if it cannot decide which hour of the evening it belongs to. It is the blue-violet gem variety of zoisite, mined in the Merelani Hills of northern Tanzania, and nowhere else on earth. Discovered in 1967 and named for the country that holds it, tanzanite is among the youngest of the treasured gems, and its single small source makes every stone a rarity.

Too recent a find to carry ancient lore, tanzanite belongs wholly to today's crystal practice, which links it to the Third Eye and Throat Chakras of the Hindu and Vedic chakra system and reads it as drawing a thread from the Third Eye down to the Heart Chakra, uniting mind and heart.

Tanzanite is a stone for meditation, intuition and spiritual exploration, and it can be a gentle first stone for those of us new to that work, opening inner sight gradually rather than all at once. It is known for helping the heart's truth find its voice, spoken with honesty and calm, and for easing our worries toward a lighter, steadier happiness. It is also associated with finding our way through upheaval and change, even a change of direction in working life.
Our team's experience
Tanzanite is a stone you want to keep turning, because it never shows quite the same colour twice: a deep, inky blue one moment, a soft violet the next. In daylight the blue leads; under lamplight or candlelight the violet comes forward and the stone seems to warm. It is smooth and cool against the skin, with a velvety depth you notice more the longer you look. We love it for anyone drawn to quiet inner work who wants something rare to keep close.
How our customers use it
Those who know tanzanite often choose it to mark something that matters, an anniversary, a milestone birthday, a promise made, and it tends to be kept for life. They keep it on when they meditate or want to stay close to their intuition through a busy day. It is a gem that quietly gathers meaning the longer it is worn, and a treasured gift for anyone who loves the rare and the beautiful.
Care notes
Tanzanite is softer than many gems (Mohs 6-7) and can split if knocked, so wear it with care and store it on its own. Cleanse with cool running water, sound, or moonlight. Avoid sudden changes of temperature, heat, steam and ultrasonic cleaners.
